CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR 2027 BAHA PRESERVATION AWARDS

Any project located within Berkeley and substantially completed between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2026 is eligible for a 2027 award. Projects nominated need not be large-scale or showy undertakings. For example, the careful restoration of wood windows, the removal of an awkward porch modification, or a clever seismic retrofit may also be projects worth consideration.

We give awards in following categories:

Project Awards

Preservation Awards: These are BAHA’s traditional awards, given for specific building projects, including respectful renovations, repairs, and additions.

Landscape and Garden Awards: Given to projects that exemplify Berkeley’s sensitivity to place and its long-standing environmental character as a “city of homes and gardens” where buildings are integrated with both natural and designed landscapes.

Infill Design Awards: Given to buildings or projects that demonstrate considerable sensitivity and skill in integrating a new structure or structures into a Berkeley site or streetscape so as to enhance and respect the historic character and built environment of the site, neighborhood, and Berkeley overall.

Lilliput Awards: Given to small projects with public visibility that enhance the lively built environment of Berkeley.

Service Awards

John English Preservation Advocacy Award: Given to an individual, group of individuals, organization, or institution that has done significant work to promote, advocate for, or bring about, historic preservation progress in Berkeley.

The Bill de Carion and Evelyn Larsen Good Stewardship Award recognizes owners, residents, and caretakers of historic properties in Berkeley for sustained commitment to preserving the historic character of Berkeley through their stewardship and care of one or more historic resources in the City.

The Student Service Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the BAHA mission by an individual graduate or undergraduate student. Their participation may include, for example, ad hoc committee work, writing, speaking, organizing activities, or inspiring other students to become active BAHA members.
