Welcome to the new Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association website, and if you have signed up, thanks so much for doing that!  The Board is very happy that this is now done and made public.  It has been quite the process to get it this far.  There are several reasons why we want to have a blog:

• We want to be better connected to our BAHA members and to those that maybe are not members but interested in our architectural history.  If you are not members, please consider joining!  You can do that here.
• Our mission is “is to promote, through education, an understanding and appreciation for Berkeley’s history, and to encourage the preservation of its historic buildings.” One way we are doing that is through the new website.  Of course, the previous website is still totally accessible as it contains a massive amount of information about buildings in Berkeley.

  

• We also want to create a rapid-fire response to the changes that are happening to the built environment in Berkeley. We are losing historic (and sometimes landmarked) buildings, and it is important to have a way to let our membership know about the decisions that are made at various Berkeley offices such as City Hall and the Landmark Preservation Commission.
• One building in particular that is in great danger is our Old City Hall. We’ll have a series of blogs about this building and we want to make sure this stays on our radar, especially with the November election and the potential bond issue.
• We want our membership to get to know the board. We are a dedicated group of people who are very interested in the mission of BAHA and who have decided to go above and beyond in terms of volunteering to steer the organization.  In the next few months we will do a few blogs on some of our board members.
